01 What causes "concrete cancer" and how do protective coatings stop it?

Concrete cancer happens when salt, moisture, and carbon dioxide soak into raw concrete over time and reach the steel reinforcing bars hidden inside. As the steel rusts, it expands up to several times its original size. This massive internal pressure cracks, lifts, and breaks away the surrounding concrete (called spalling). Remedial protective coatings act as an impenetrable shield that stops the carbonation process and blocks moisture from ever reaching the steel embedded within the structure.

THE REMEDIAL FIX: We seal exposed structures using an anti-carbonation Protective Barrier Coating. This breaks the cycle of concrete degradation and locks out environmental elements permanently.

02 Can you paint directly over rusted metal bars during a repair?

Absolutely not. Slapping standard paint over active rust just hides the problem while the metal continues to rot blindly underneath. For a permanent remedial fix, the structural steel must be chipped out and mechanically cleaned back to bright, white metal using abrasive blasting or needle guns. Only after the loose scaling and microscopic rust particles are completely removed can a specialized, zinc-rich conversion coating be applied to chemically lock down the steel surface.

03 What is the difference between standard house paint and remedial membranes?

Standard architectural paints are thin and designed purely for looks. They split open easily when a building naturally shifts or cracks. Remedial elastomeric coatings are engineered with immense "elongation properties"—meaning they can stretch like rubber up to several times their original thickness without snapping. This flexible nature allows the protective coating to stretch right across minor building cracks, keeping the structure 100% watertight even during thermal movement.
